LUXURY : The state of great comfort and extravagant living. Goods at the highest end of the market in terms of quality and price.
WAR : A state of armed conflict between societies. It is generally characterized by extreme aggression, destruction, and mortality, using regular or irregular military forces. An absence of war is usually called "peace."
An exploration of the secret history of my father's service in WWII. Today, as I turn the pages of The New York Times newspaper I see war famine disease conflict governments in decline. Ads for luxury watches shoes handbags jewelry. Schizophrenic altered realities of what is. Will the luxury watch provide a sense of order?
I photographed some of Walter's possessions and medals and put them into the context of the luxury advertisement. I use the language of aspirational consumption.
